A Westport man was found dead on Friday morning after hiking in New York, according to the New York Department of Environmental Conservation.

Thomas Howard, 61, was found dead in the High Peaks Wilderness area of ​​New York around 10:30 a.m., according to a statement from New York DEC and the New York State Police.

Howard hiked Mount Colden in North Elba, NY on March 11. He was reported missing on March 16 after failing to return from his trip, New York State Police said in a statement earlier this week.

Before Howard was found Friday morning, state police said his last known location was the Marcy Dam lean-to.


New York State officials said Howard’s family “wish to express their gratitude to the community and researchers for their support. The family requests privacy as they mourn the loss of a loved one.
